Pumpkin Pie with Ginger Streusel

Ingredients

Crust

  • 2 tablespoons chopped peeled fresh ginger
  • 1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) chilled unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup chilled solid vegetable shortening, cut into small pieces
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoons (or more) ice water

Filling

  • 1 16-ounce can solid pack pumpkin
  • 1 1/2 cups whipping cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed golden brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Topping

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed golden brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts (about 2 1/2 ounces)
  • 1/4 cup finely chipped crystallized ginger
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into small pieces, room temperatur
