Classic Bruschetta

Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 pounds ripe plum tomatoes, diced to 1/4-inch
  • 1 small head garlic, or about 6 large cloves, minced
  • 1 medium shallot, finely chopped (about 2 tablespoon)
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves, slivered
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 baguette or crusty country bread, for serving
